Baby giggles

Mia loves her daddy.  He can always get her to smile really big and get excited.  Last night she was getting excited and giggling at him (maybe because she knew how silly he looks when he crawls into her gym with her!).

Tummy Time!

Things happen so quick!  Last week I was putting Mia on her stomach for some tummy time, which she HATES for more than a couple of minutes.  I had almost convinced myself that she was never going to roll over because of her limited amount of tummy time (I give in too easy because I hate when she starts to cry.  Plus, I rationalize that by the time she's upset and burying her face in the floor that she's not working towards strengthening her upper body or developmental milestones anymore!).  Without any effort she started to lean to the left and over she went.  A one time accident maybe?  No, she did it two more times and you can see her working just a little to turn over on purpose.  I took out my iPhone and caught the third and final try.  She hasn't done it since then.

Smiles!

I love all the smiles I get from this little girl. As soon as she wakes up she is full of them!
This was right before she slobbered the bunny to death!

More cute pictures!

I have to admit I'm jealous of John's iPhone! He took the first two pictures and they turned out great. Somehow he always seems to get cute pictures of her.

She's on the move!

It's not often that Mia finds something she really wants.  But, this week she wanted the changing pad (of all things!) and spent several minutes desperately reaching out for it.  The closer she got the more it, and her, moved.  She ended up turned a good 90 degrees going for it.

Mia has something to say!

My mother sent Mia a very cute toy bunny.  I put it on the corner of her pack and play and Mia loves it!  For the past two nights she has been talking to her bunny.

Stuck at home today

Well, this morning John left for work and a few minutes later I got a phone call from him.  He told me that I shouldn't go walking in our neighborhood today because there was a black bear hanging out down the street from our house!  So, now Mia and I are stuck inside for the day.  The boring part is that I didn't get to see the bear, but I'll include some pictures of a bear and her cub I saw last year while we were out fishing!

These are the facial expressions that Mia wakes up making

Mia fell asleep in her car seat while I was out today and I left her in there sleeping when we got home.  After she starting making noises I checked on her and when she saw me these were her facial expressions.

Nursing Covers

I put a Bebe au Lait style nursing cover on my baby registry when I first put it together.  At some point during the weeks that I registered online and waited for my baby shower, I started to wonder how hard it would be to make my own cover.  The price tag for each Bebe au Lait cover is $35.  That's a little steep for essentially a blanket with a strap at the top.  And I began to realize that if I didn't receive this as a gift would I really want to spend that much for one?  I was able to find a free pattern online and spent last night making two of them.  Each of them has the same features as the cover I wanted: a rigid neckline that allows me to peak at baby while using it, two inside pockets at the bottom, adjustable straps, and of course plenty of material to keep me and baby covered.  I think they turned out cute and both together only cost me $16!

Nesting?

So, here I am two days shy of 39 weeks pregnant.  I have been waiting for something to change and feel different somehow.  But so far there's been nothing, no sign that I'm even close to going into labor; I'm not even having Braxton Hicks.  I keep being told by other people that I'm "nesting."  I haven't been able to help but roll my eyes each time I've heard it so far.  Sure... doing dishes and laundry after it gets backed up a few days is really nesting, right?  It seems that any normal housekeeping task to non-pregnant people suddenly counts as "nesting."  But, I haven't had any strange desire to wash my soap dispenser with soap or randomly dust with Q-tips.  So far I've felt pretty normal, until tonight.

My day started out with shopping for a few essentials at Costco.  When I came home, around noon, I was exhausted and took a three hour nap.  I felt a little better when I woke up and had more energy.  I actually made a meal for dinner (I've been lazy this week and we've only eaten what's quick and easy to make).  I then decided to catch up on all the dishes, open and clean my new coffee maker, make banana bread, and sew two nursing covers.  I would keep going, I need to repack my hospital bag and do some sewing on my new curtains, but it's already midnight.

So, the real question is, am I really nesting?  Everything I did tonight were things I had been planning on doing for a while.  From my understanding, true nesting comes only a few days before labor.  That may be the one sign I get that I'll be starting labor soon and I'm still not completely sure that's really what it was!  I guess I'll just have to continue being patient until it actually happens.
